A sweet and savory breakfast casserole featuring crispy chicken, golden waffles, and a maple custard. Finished with a drizzle of hot honey, this dish is a crowd-pleasing brunch favorite.

6 Belgian-style waffles, toasted and cubed
10 cooked chicken tenders, chopped
6 eggs
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup real maple syrup
1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/4 cup hot honey (plus extra for serving)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch dish.

  • Toast waffles and cut into cubes.

  • Bake chicken tenders, then chop into pieces.

  • Layer half the waffles, chicken, and cheese in the dish. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

  • Whisk eggs, milk, cream, syrup, and seasonings in a bowl.

  • Pour over layers and press down gently.

  • Cover and chill for 1 hour or overnight.

  • Let come to room temperature for 20 minutes.

  • Bake covered for 30 minutes.

  • Remove foil, drizzle with butter, and bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes.

  • Rest 10 minutes before slicing.

  • Drizzle with warm hot honey and serve.
